William R. Allen, Ph.D. is a Partner with Wood, Herron & Evans and is involved in all phases of the firm's intellectual property practice. His legal practice involves the preparation and prosecution of domestic and international patent applications, ex parte and inter partes reexamination, legal opinions, due diligence, and client counseling, as well as trademark prosecution and enforcement. William has broad technical expertise in the areas of electrical, semiconductor, materials, and mechanical technologies with representative technologies including control systems and electrical components for wind turbines, semiconductor device structures and fabrication processes, non-invasive cosmetic surgery equipment and procedures, thin film process tools and methods, integrated circuit testing and packaging equipment, X-ray inspection machines, automated pharmacy systems, tires, and flat panel displays.

William, who is admitted to the Ohio Bar and registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, joined Wood, Herron & Evans as an attorney in 1999 after being employed for over a decade as a physicist at national laboratories in Tennessee and New Mexico.

William holds a J.D. degree from The University of Tennessee College of Law, a Ph.D. degree in Physics from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a B.Sc. degree in Physics & Mathematics from Emory & Henry College (Va.).

William is a past adjunct professor at the University of Tennessee - Knoxville and was honored as Young Alumnus of the Year in 1987 by Emory & Henry College. William is a member of the Ohio and Cincinnati Bar Associations, as well as the Intellectual Property Owners Association, the Cincinnati Intellectual Property Law Association, and the American and Cincinnati Intellectual Property Law Associations. He resides in Northern Kentucky with his wife Kathryn.
