Karen K. Gaunt is a Partner with Wood, Herron & Evans, L.L.P. Karen's practice is concentrated in the areas of domestic and international trademark, copyright, Internet, media, licensing, advertising and corporate law. She counsels clients on both transactional and litigation matters involving all aspects of trademark, copyright, advertising, Internet, licensing and trade secret law, and she frequently gives seminars on various intellectual property matters. Karen has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in numerous trademark and copyright cases, in both state and federal court. Karen also negotiates computer software licensing, outsourcing and R&D agreements, and also litigates in these areas.
Karen received her J.D. at the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1997 and her B.A. in History and English, cum laude, from Denison University in 1993. Karen was admitted to Practice in Ohio in 1997. Karen is also admitted in the following Courts: U.S. District Court, Southern District of Ohio, 1999; U.S. Court of International Trade, 1999; U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, 2003; U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, 2003; U.S. District Court, Southern District of Indiana, 2009.
Karen is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the International Trademark Association, and has served on the Cincinnati Bar Association Intellectual Property Litigation Committee, and as Programming Chair for CincyIP, for which she now sits on the Board.
Karen was recently selected for inclusion in the Cincy "Leading Lawyer" list in Cincy Magazine and has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 2008. Karen also has been listed in Chambers, USA as one of "America's Leading Lawyers for Business" in the area of Intellectual Property every year since 2006. She was named a Fellow by the Cincinnati Academy of Leadership for Lawyers, Class IX in 2005, and also named an "Ohio Rising Star" by Law & Politics for 2005-2006.
Karen is very active in her community and dedicated to various civic and charitable commitments. Currently, she serves on the University Club Board of Governors and serves as Co-Chair of the University Club's Speaker Series Committee. Karen devotes time to the Cincinnati Therapeutic Riding & Horsemanship (formerly Cincinnati Riding for the Handicapped) serving on its Board of Trustees, she serves on the Advisory Board for Birthright, Inc. and served on its Board of Directors from 2004-2006. Karen has also served as a Literacy Tutor at Oyler Elementary.
Karen resides in Mt. Lookout, Ohio with her husband Jim and their three young children Gwyneth, Grace and James.
